Creative sparks
“You can’t use up creativity. The more you use, the more you have.” ~Maya Angelou
I love this quote about creativity. And I think it's true. I've been so inspired to be creative lately and have found that as I'm starting to get more creative, that creativity has seemingly multiplied. I've started writing a ton. I've also started reading a ton. And lately, creativity seems to be finding me in various ways.
For my birthday, my friend Carol Lou, who's an artist, made me a lovely collage birthday card with a picture she drew of a glamorous 'woman about London' on it. She's been painting and drawing these glamorous women for me for years in various cities, sometimes Paris but mostly NYC where I used to live. I have saved each and every one of them. I was so excited to get this card. For her birthday, I decided to create a collage card for her using clippings from magazines. I wasn't sure about the card at first but I started to let go and just enjoyed the process and you know what? I loved the end result.
I've been inspired by my surroundings lately, too. Every day, I see the most ordinary things that fill me with an insane amount of joy and I've felt compelled to snap photos and share stories of these random things on Instagram. The swans and ducks on the River Thames. The leave-laden path ahead of me. The cute pup on the bus that's hanging off his owner's shoulder.
I'm really proud of myself for finding joy in small things, sharing even just a small part of myself through this site, and finding inspiration wherever it might show up. My hope is to keep finding sparks of creativity and by all means, enjoy the process.
As I continue on this creative journey, I'm reminded that creativity is a limitless well, always ready to be tapped into. It's been a force that has started to enrich my life and allowed me to connect with others in unexpected and delightful ways. Here's to tapping into the endless flow of creativity in whatever ways it brings you joy.
