No limits
“It is never too late to be what you might have been.” ~commonly attributed to George Eliot (pen name of Mary Ann Evans).
A few years ago, I remember asking my friend, who was an avid skier, if I was too old to learn to ski. He responded nonchalantly, ‘probably, yeah'. The idea of skiing was both thrilling and intimidating, but an invitation to Chamonix, France with friends who were convinced we’d conquer the Alps on our first try persuaded me to take the leap.
And you know what? They were absolutely right.
Skiing in the Alps was awesome. Our instructor liked to ski off-piste (which is for the more adventurous, skilled skiers who embark on the ungroomed and unmarked areas outside the designated ski slopes). The initial fear I felt dissipated quickly as I glided down the slopes, wind in my face.
Since that trip, I've hit the slopes with my family, including three nephews who can effortlessly ski circles around me. Despite not being a seasoned pro yet, I kind of love it and I’m not half bad! I plan to make a yearly commitment to improving my skills.
The lesson here is super simple: You're never too old to try something new.
