Navigating home
“Home is the nicest word there is.” ~Laura Ingalls Wilder
The simplicity of this quote is so sweet and resonates with me deeply, especially as I navigate the transition from my US home to building a new life in the UK. Having moved to London nearly 4 years ago, the juxtaposition of missing my family and friends back in the US while simultaneously creating a home with my partner here is a unique challenge.
The duality of emotions is palpable, as I often find myself caught between two places. I miss my family and friends, yet building a life with my partner in London feels right. Balancing work, establishing a new home, and trying to start a family adds a layer of complexity to the mix.
Juggling these responsibilities is certainly challenging, and at times, it feels exceptionally hard. However, the anticipation of trips back to the US is comforting. And once the dust settles, I can't wait to welcome my family and friends from the US to visit my new home in London. The prospect of sharing this significant chapter of my life with them brings a lot of joy and excitement to the process of building a new home.
In the midst of these conflicting emotions and the whirlwind of change, I find comfort in the belief that, ultimately, home is not just a physical place but a feeling. Whether it stems from my US roots or the ongoing journey of creating a home in the UK, it's a beautiful and evolving process.
