Bravery > perfection
"Perfectionism prevents us from taking double steps in our career. We think we have to be perfect, but we don’t.” ~Reshma Saujani, Girls Who Code
Bravery > perfection. Saujani sums this up pretty well. She actually says to "do 10% of your job shittily. It’s okay to do something shittily." While I'm not advocating for knowingly doing poor work, I believe she's on to something. We need to know where to invest our energy and not strive for perfection in everything we do.
I've found lately that being a bit less worried about being perfect at work has actually made me even better at my job. I'm less anxious and I've allowed myself to have a lot more fun. I'm also more comfortable admitting I don't know things which has helped foster curiosity and allowed me to build even better work relationships.
I've realized that while I'm a woman in tech in London, I haven't written too much about what that's like. I've been using this blog as more of a holiday from work, but writing is actually integral to my daily routine. Embracing Saujani's bravery concept, I think I'll start to bring this mindset into my writing, exploring topics related to my work and the industry. It won't be perfect, but that's not the point now is it?
What does being brave look like to you?
